Children need healthy meals to learn.
Tupper Lake CSD offers healthy meals every school day.

Breakfast is available to all students.

In order to meet USDA requirements, school breakfasts must contain no more than 30% of calories from fat, and less then 10% from saturated fat.

In addition, breakfast must provide one fourth of the Recommended Dietary Allowances for protein, calcium, iron, Vitamin A, Vitamin C and calories.

Research shows that children who eat breakfast:
  • show improvement on math, reading and standardized test scores
  • establish healthier habits for later in life
  • have fewer absences and incidences of tardiness
  • are more likely to behave better in school
  • consume more calcium, fiber, foliate and protein

Breakfast is served:

LP Quinn Elementary School: 7:50 am - 8:35 am, with breakfast available as-needed for students arriving late.
Tupper Lake Middle-High School: 7:00 am - 8:00 am, with breakfast available as-needed for students arriving late.

Programs

All students enrolled at Tupper Lake CSD are eligible to receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at school at no charge to your household each day of the 2023-24 school year. Your child(ren) will be able to participate in these meal programs without having to pay a fee or complete an application.

What is the Household Income Eligibility Form?

The form collects basic information about your learner so our school can determine if they would otherwise be eligible for free or reduced-price breakfast/lunch. It is important for EVERY family to fill out this form because doing so helps bring much-needed additional money and services directly to our schools! This form must be submitted each year by October 1. Please complete the form and return it to Susan Frank, Capital Region BOCES, 900 Watervliet Shaker Road, Albany, NY 12205 or [email protected]

If all meals are free, why do we have to complete this form?

School districts receive funding from the state and federal governments. For each learner who would qualify for free or reduced-price breakfast/lunch, schools receives thousands of additional dollars in funding.  Even a small increase in completed Household Income Eligibility forms collected results in significantly more money to support our learners and schools.

What if my child doesn’t want to eat school breakfast/lunch; why should I fill out the form?

Even if your child chooses to bring their own breakfast/lunch or snack or if they eat lunch at home, filling out the form is very important! It ensures that our school gets all of the funding and benefits available. Also, even if your child does not eat school breakfast/lunch, learners who qualify for free breakfast/lunch can also receive benefits, including reduced fees for SAT and ACT tests, reduced college applications fees, discounts on monthly internet services and computer purchases.

How does filling out the Household Income Eligibility Form help our school?

Schools qualify to receive more money per learner from the state and federal government and receive more money in their budgets to support learners.

Our Household doesn’t qualify for free or reduced price meals, do I still need to complete the form?

The information on this form is not shared.  If you do not wish to be considered for eligibility, you may fill out the paper form by completing the learner information, write “does not qualify” in the income section, and then complete the name, signature, and date lines.

Is the Information I submit confidential?

Yes, the information you submit on the Household Income Eligibility Form is not shared by our school.  Personal information submitted on the form is not shared with the state or federal government; only the number of learners who qualify for free or reduced breakfast/lunch is shared.

District personnel are not told which learners qualify for free or reduced breakfast/lunch benefits.

Our school does not share information with other organizations that provide benefits. If your child would otherwise qualify for free or reduced-price breakfast/lunch, you may use the eligibility form provided by our school to qualify for other benefits through providers.

USDA Summer Meals for Kids Site Finder

USDA works closely with states to ensure that children who receive on free or reduced-price school meals can get the nutrition they need when schools are closed – whether during summer break or unexpected closures during the school year. Through USDA's summer meal programs, approved sites in communities across the country can serve meals to kids up to age 18 at no cost. Families can use this tool to find directions to nearby meal sites, as well as their hours of operation and contact information.

Answers to common questions about summer meal operations this year can be found here.

Families seeking food assistance for their children can also contact The USDA National Hunger Hotline, operated by Hunger Free America.
