12/4 TLMHS Family Update and Information

Amanda Zullo
Good afternoon,
It was great to see everyone back and rested after break! We had a good week with everyone working together in and out of classes.

There have been a lot of outstanding things happening at school. There is a lot of information below about our classes, the items we celebrated this week (Recognition Breakfasts, Honor Rolls, Winter Sports) as well as upcoming items such as our Food Drive and College/Career Readiness workshops.

I am sharing so that everyone is aware. The 5 week timeframe for this marking period is coming up quickly (12/9). This is part because the marking period contains a few vacations. Please talk with your child and their teachers regarding their current progress.

We are fortunate that our classes had the opportunity to visit Mountain Lake PBS to plan out the Beyond the Peaks Film Festival.
Our digital artists' tee shirt and hoodie designs are for sale on Custom Ink. The sale runs for the next 4 weeks :) We sure hope you like what you see and might even be willing to share their artwork on your social media!
Several of our extracurricular groups met this week. Some had stories shared by our local librarian and a friend; others are making plans for future work.

A few of our student leaders had the opportunity to attend the DRI event in town where they met with the Secretary of State Rodriguez along with other local leaders. This unique opportunity has spurred ideas; they are now deep in planning several things for our school.

Recognition Breakfasts

Several years ago we used to have recognition breakfasts. The breakfasts have been brought back to provide an opportunity to acknowledge students for the great work and improvements that they are making in classes.

Thank you parents for supporting the students. Thank you to our staff who took the time and opportunity to acknowledge the students. Thank you students for your work within classes-it makes a BIG difference!

Our cafeteria staff did an amazing job preparing food, coffee and hot chocolate to start the day. Thank you!!

Mrs. Drews produced the best certificates around and Mrs. Brunette helped with getting the information out to students and parents.

We are all grateful to have this opportunity again!

Honor Rolls

Everyone at TLMHS wants to extend a BIG CONGRATULATIONS to all of the students who made the honor roll, high honor roll and highest honor roll.

We know the past few years have been challenging. Students continue to succeed in many areas, including academic excellence.

Food Drive

Starting this week in Mod 1 classes we will be having the annual food drive. We collect throughout the week and do a weigh in on Friday.

The winning class goes to the food panty to donate the food collected by the school.

College and Career Advisor Training-For all parents/students

Tupper Lake CSD is partnered with the College and Career For Every Student program. That partnership provides us opportunities such as this "advisor" training.

All teachers/parents/students are encouraged to sign up and check out the resources. There are a lot of valuable items that we are lucky to have access to.

The session starts with a live 30-minute opening session that shares the building blocks of college and career readiness. Following session one, participants engage in two pre-recorded 30-minute lessons that focus on practices like mentoring, Essential Skills and steps to become ready for postsecondary education and the workplace.

The 30-minute live closing brings it all together and melds what participants learn into a plan to help students. Newly minted CCR Advisors leave with college and career mapping tools, a national network of CCR Advisors, and other resources to meet ongoing challenges relating to college and career readiness.

These training sessions are accessible by completing this registration form

You will choose which training you want to view, then click "next" and you will be guided to the link.

The December lunch menu's are located hereOur cafeteria staff can take money for children's accounts or the money can be added on MySchoolBucks.

Athletics

The Winter Sports season has quickly snuck up on us.  Just four short weeks ago we finalized fall sports and athletes took a quick two week breather before starting indoor track, basketball and hockey.

There is plenty more sports action to follow, so stay tuned for updates. Also keep an eye on the athletics website for the most up to date schedule.

The girls Varsity Basketball has a packed schedule before the Winter break and Indoor Track starts meets soon.  Lastly, our Hockey team faces off next week for their first game of the season.

If you're out shopping this week, don't be afraid to buy a new coat and maybe some gloves.  When you travel to games, you always want to be warm.

Stay tuned sports fans.  As always, thank you for being an athletic supporter.
