Monday Assembly
I want to extend a big Thank You to Eric Turner for helping us to coordinate Mike Very for our first whole school assembly of the school year.
He worked to overcome a lifetime of mental health challenges to become a professional drummer and one of America’s leading mental health speakers. He’s the author of the best selling book, Transforming Stigma: How to Become a Mental Wellness Superhero. His advocacy work has been featured on ABC, NBC, CBS news. As a 2017 PM360 ELITE Award Winner, he is recognized as one of the 100 most influential people in the healthcare industry.
He is also a writer for Corporate Wellness Magazine, Health Central, and delivered a TEDx Talk, titled “Mental Illness is an Asset.” He’s worked with a variety of companies including T-Mobile, Heineken, United Auto Workers - General Motors, and The Wounded Warrior Project.
In his spare time, he enjoys weight training, doing Transcendental Meditation for 20 minutes - 2 times a day, and eating a good bone-in ribeye steak cooked medium rare. He lives in New York City and is ADDICTED to buying luggage, along while watching YouTube videos on how to pack a suitcase. His packing checklist for business trips is one of his most prized possessions.
We are grateful to be able to provide this opportunity to our students and staff.

Report Cards
Quarter 1 Report cards will be sent home this week. Within the Report Cards is a letter about BIMAS. Please reach out with questions if you have them.
We hope your student had a good first quarter and is feeling used to the routines and expectations of our school.I encourage you to take time with your student to carefully review the grades and comments together and to ask questions that invite reflection and discussion. What did your student enjoy the most? What was their biggest challenge? Which teacher did they especially connect with? What goals do they have for 2nd quarter?
Any one of these questions might open up a conversation that leads to deeper understanding of your student’s school experience this fall and reminds your student of your care and interest and desire to support them.
One big question to be sure to ask: If your student were to proudly put on display one example of their learning and growth for first quarter, what would it be? Let them identify their “fridge-worthy” experience to showcase at home. Perhaps it is the whole report card, maybe it is just the grade and comments from a specific class, or one assignment or photograph of a project.
No matter our age, we take pride in receiving accolades and knowing that our successes are spotlighted. Help us and help your student celebrate their good work from first quarter.
We thank you for your continued support.
Sending best wishes for the Thanksgiving Holiday!!
