LPQ and MHS did an outstanding job raising money for the Tupper Lake Fire Department and EMS. In total, our kids brought in $2,023.24 worth of pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters and cash.
Mr. Bennett has met with senior parents; it is estimated over 50% of the seniors are looking at college. To foster the vision of college as an option, Grade 8 students went to “I’ve been admitted day” at SUNY Plattsburgh.
Through our College and Career for Every Student partnership there are trips for grades 9-12 to visit SUNY Potsdam 10/24 and SUNY Canton on 10/26 and St. Lawrence and Clarkson on 10/28.
We also have a group visiting North Country for the College Fair on 10/6 and Adirondack Medical Center to learn about careers on 10/6.
On 10/10 we have a representative coming to help everyone learn about Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Student groups are up and running with lots of attendees at meetings. Partnerships with the Wild Center and Climate Smart Communities are underway.
Monday I met with the student council along with Mr. Bennett and heard their ideas. At the 5 week mark we will be allowing cell phones to be used in study hall if children are passing all of their classes. We are also looking into some small modifications with dress code, getting vending machines going and potentially a fun day each quarter for students/staff. They are going to work with me on helping to create a student friendly version of some school documents.
