2025 Lead Testing Results

As part of our commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of our students and staff, we recently conducted lead testing on all sinks, drinking fountains, and other potable water sources within the Tupper Lake Central School District, as required by New York State regulations. On June 11, 2025, the district received the results of this testing and was informed that 53 locations were found to have lead levels exceeding the new regulatory limit.
Effective immediately:
- Drinking fountains with elevated lead levels have been taken out of service and will remain unavailable until remediation is complete and follow-up testing confirms lead levels are below the regulatory limit.
- Sink locations with elevated lead levels will be clearly marked with appropriate signage and will be restricted for hygiene purposes only.
It is important to note that in 2023, New York State implemented stricter regulations, lowering the allowable lead level from 15 parts per billion (ppb) to 5 ppb.
We want to assure you that we are taking all necessary steps to address this matter promptly and effectively. We are actively taking measures to find solutions. We also want to assure you that there is safe, potable water for everyone in each building.
